My favorite season!

It’s September and my favorite season is fast approaching!

I’m bidding farewell to the highs and lows of summer. A few highlights this summer? Visiting Lisbon, seeing the vibrant terracotta color and olive trees of Marrakesh, growing pretty flowers, eating fresh fruits and veggies, and tending to my garden. There were a few lows though, like losing three precious family members, that led me to beautify the yard through dirt therapy and seek a little solace in nature while camping.

As we move into this new season, I’m looking forward to experiencing the magic of fall’s color through food, foliage, fireside chats, and football (shhhhh… don’t tell my wife about that last one). I see light sweaters, hibiscus tea, and new books in my future. Delightful!

Fall reminds me of going back to school. So, I signed up for a few webinars. I’m most excited about the one below; well-known, seasoned authors of color will share experiences of getting stories published without their characters being whitewashed.

New (to me) Favorite Finds

I enjoyed the banter in this new podcast that I ran across on social, Sippin’ Tea with Aunt Georgia Lee. The podcast contains conversations with authors, random thoughts, and good vibes. I also love this artist who recently released new music that I listen to on repeat. Natalie Layne’s soulful sound is giving me life.

September is Suicide Prevention Month. Let’s reduce the stigma that is often associated with seeking mental health support and raise awareness to keep everyone safe. Learn about local suicide prevention resources or start nationally with #988. For my fellow comrades, the Veterans Crisis Line is a good resource. Dial 988, then press 1 or text 838255 for immediate help.

September is also National Read a New Book Month. I don’t know who makes these things up, but new books? I really don’t need a reason to acquire or borrow them. As a matter of fact, today (September 6th) is National Read a New Book Day. To that end, I joined the Sapphic September Reads promotion that features a new list of fiction, romance, mystery and suspense authors.

Until next time, happy reading!

Naomi
