Spring means…

LONGER LIGHT-FILLED DAYS.

BOOK FESTIVALS. Each festival I attend, each newsletter I read, each BookBub email I receive, I add more books to my TBR (to be read) list. So many books, so little time…

Recently, I added Black Cake by Charmaine Wilkerson, Rogue Justice by Stacey Abrams, and Awakening Hearts: A Tale of Love Across Lifetimes by Angie K. Love. An eclectic list to be sure. A gem that I recently read in a matter of 48 hours was Skye Falling by Mia McKenzie. (It was published in 2021… how did I miss it?) This laugh out loud story about community, queerness, and unexpected experiences had me hooked from cover to cover.

CONNECTING with family, friends, and community.

GARDENING! Spring is my season to connect with the soil because dirt therapy is real! It helps boost our serotonin levels, one of the “happy” hormones. In my garden, daffodils kicked the season off. Not far behind lovely tulips made an appearance – at least the ones I had a chance to see before birds, squirrels, or bunnies decimated them (side eye to nature). Blooming next are peonies and lilies – I’ll share pictures in future newsletters. Quite honestly, I’m not always sure where I planted what, each season there’s a surprise… When something beautiful emerges, I find myself going, “when did I plant that?”

I LOVE FLOWERS!

Can you ever have too many flowers and plants?

GETTING OUT AND ABOUT. These past two months have been busy after the release of THIS: A Simple, Complex Love Story. I had my first author event in March at a local library (I love, love, love libraries) where I met some of you as well as authors across many genres. I’m hoping to meet more readers during upcoming events, so if you know of an event or a book club that’s looking to have an author drop in virtually, I’d love to attend. Also, if you enjoyed THIS, please tell a friend and I’d appreciate a book review on your website of choice.

You may remember last month that a group of sapphic literature authors contributed to an anthology and an excerpt of THIS: A Simple, Complex Love Story was included. This month, in honor of Lesbian Visibility week, I’m happy to share that THIS was also included in award-winning author Jae’s list of "100 books with lesbian characters." Check out the free anthology and Jae’s list – both have definitely expanded my own TBR list.

Lastly, for those of you in the U.S., I hope you take a moment on Memorial Day, May 29th, to honor those who paid the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation.

Happy reading!

Naomi
